After the rain The first blush of evening descends on the mesa The sun has no shame It goes down in flames as if falling from grace Leaving only a tumble of amber and ultramarine The wind through the trees I feel you breathe, I can hear your heart beating Do you hold the key That opens the soul of a secret I’m keeping If I whisper your name, will you love me tonight in my dreams Lay me down in a high mountain meadow by cool running streams When you’re riding at night With the wind at your side I’ll come drifting into your mind like a radio tune Kisses salty and sweet That would melt in the heat Of a sleepy desert moon Of a sleepy desert moon

about

"The Susan Holmes Brotherhood is a band of veteran sidemen playing guitar-driven instrumentals. We started in the spring of 2018, getting together regularly in my living room, working up an eclectic repertoire of songs. Original compositions were often created on-the-spot, sometimes inspired by dogs, horses...sometimes by guacamole.

It seemed that the pandemic would put and end to my "dream band." But as the shutdown restrictions started to ease, I had the good fortune to get these guys in the studio to get some of our originals recorded.

I also had the good fortune to have Shannon McNally lend her gorgeous voice to a song I wrote decades ago for a gal in cowgirl band I was in at the time. (Shannon's a frequent visitor to New Mexico and was here to perform at the Ghost Ranch Weekend.)

Struggling for a band name (other than “Jon, Paul, George and Susan”), I made an executive decision to call us “The Susan Holmes Brotherhood.” These great guys do feel like family, after all.

I hope you enjoy this endeavor. Play it loud, play it in your car, play in in your kitchen, play it in your head and your heart."
